Ever since I was a child I could vividly remember watching Micheal Jordan playing for the Chicago Bulls with his tongue hanging out, draining mid-range jumpers, and driving the lane posterizing his opponents with slam dunks. His attitude was contagious because I was obsessed about going to the NBA like every other boy watching MJ commercials. “Like Mike, I wanna be like Mike, I wanna be, I wanna be like Mike’.
The question is why?
I believe we all have the desire and the ability to do something bigger than ourselves. After deep thought and reflection throughout the years. I didn’t want to be like Mike, I wanted to become the best version of myself. I realized there is only one Michal Jordan and in the same respect, there is only one Ray Grand. What I learned about going through the process of dreaming and practicing to go to the NBA is that success is determined by the discipline of repetition of an action or behavior to reach your desired result. I did that and did not reach the NBA, however, I did build up the intangibles that are needed to succeed in life, which I like to call the 3 D’s Desire, Dedication, and Determination.
Desire: noun – a strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen.
I desire to become the best ___________
Dedication: noun – the quality of being dedicated or committed to a task or purpose.
I am dedicated to this ______________ until the end.
Determination: noun – firmness of purpose; resoluteness.
I am determined to accomplish ________
I applied this method to everything I do and ask myself these questions.
Do I have the desire for this?
Do I see the end result and am I determined to see it to the end?
Will I endure the pain to be dedicated to this?
